This year Atlanta PAL Anderson Park hosted both the 14 & Under and  17 & Under divisions of the Department of Parks and Recreation Basketball Tournament. Winner of the 17 & Under game was Grove Park (Pictured in red), defeating Pitman Park (Pictured in gray and black) 60 - 55.

Once again, PAL had a wildly successful season on the court with both the Boys 12 & Under teams losing just one game between them (when they faced one another) and both teams advancing to
the playoff.  Additionally our  8-year-old Coed team had another great season going 5-3 and progressing to the playoffs for a second straight year.

Undefeated, 14 & Under Boys Win City B-Ball Championship

Many of our PAL member’s student-athletes start off at a young age at PAL and continue to play basketball for PAL up until age 17. Quite a few go on to participate in local high school basketball programs. PAL basketball is recognized as one of the best in Atlanta. Our coaches work with our youth teams on a daily basis. PAL host

numerous clinics during the offseason and skills camps throughout the year.

PAL looks forward to putting together our first Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) 12 & Under and 14 & Under teams to compete this spring and summer in tournaments throughout the Greater Atlanta Area. We are hopeful of competing in the National PAL basketball tournament.

Atlanta PAL 14 & Under City Basketball Champs

United Methodist Great Day of Service

Congratulations to the Atlanta Police Athletic League Boys 14 & Under Basketball Team for an undefeated 14 - 0 season. And kudos to coaches (30year volunteer) Tensley Cofer and Officer Richard Light, who led their players through this thrilling season, and on to win the 2016 City Championships on April 2. The PAL Boys 14 & Under defeated Dunbar (pictured in light gray, below)  in the championship game with a final score of 94 - 75. The squad set a single-team scoring record in the highest scoring Parks and Recreation game to date. This is Coach Cofer's 16th City Championship with PAL.

Benefits PAL Recreation Centers

Projects completed include: replacing wood chips and replanting flowers in our garden and repainting our outside benches. The group also assisted in the extension of our equipment room and donated a washer and dryer to the center.

It is because of people and organizations such as PRUMC and events like The Great Day of Service that the Atlanta PAL Centers can continue our mission to help the youth members we serve to realize their dreams and goals.

Our sincere thanks to the volunteers from Peachtree Road United Methodist Church (PRUMC).  On Saturday, March 19 (2016), this dedicated group shared their time and talents at the Atlanta PAL Anderson Park Recreational Center, making many improvements to the facility and grounds.  It was all part of the PRUMC’s annual community volunteer day: The Great Day of Service.
